Art Research

During my adventures in the UCA Farnham Library, I decided to also pick up some different kinds of research on time. I tried to find an artist who based his/her artwork around time. I found a British sculptor called Andy Goldsworthy who mainly uses time and nature in his artwork. His work particularly interested me as it demonstrates how nature changes over time with his pieces of work changing or disappearing all together as nature grows around it and changes it.

One of the pieces that I liked was an ice and snow sculpture he did by creating frost shadows (see image below)

In the book you could see a picture of the work freshly made, and then later to see the change. In this case the piece had disappeared.

In this piece he titled 'Elderberries rubbed on dead elm' demonstrates what I mean also. (See image below)

I think his work for me really captures how nature changes over time, using such simple concepts and materials aswell. He has shown me that your work only has to be simple to get the concept across, rather than being over complicated.
